Broward Student Support
We know that many of our students and staff have ties to the Broward community and to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. As we learn more about the tragedy in south Florida, we want to make sure that any students impacted know that we have many services and resources to support you and to help you cope. Please know that you are not alone and we encourage you to utilize the services below as needed.
In addition, you can strengthen your ability to adapt in the face of adversity with the following tips:
- Talk about it. Ask for support from people who care about you and who will listen to your concerns.
- Strive for balance. When a tragedy occurs, it's easy to become overwhelmed and have a negative or pessimistic outlook.
- Turn it off and take a break. You may want to keep informed, but try to limit the amount of news you take in whether it's from the Internet, television, newspapers or magazines.
- Honor your feelings. Remember that it is common to have a range of emotions after a traumatic incident.
- Take care of yourself. Engage in healthy behaviors to enhance your ability to cope with excessive stress.
- Help others or do something productive. Helping someone else often has the benefit of making you feel better, too. Blood
donation is a high immediate need.
