Undergraduate
BS/MS PATHWAY PROGRAM
The University of South Florida (Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬) offers a 5-year accelerated program in Electrical Engineering, allowing students to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) within a condensed timeline. This program is designed for highly motivated students who wish to fast-track their education and enter the workforce with advanced qualifications sooner than the traditional route.
To be eligible for the program, students must:
- Complete a minimum of 90 credit hours toward the BSEE degree.
- Complete at least 15 credit hours within the Electrical Engineering major.
- Maintain a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.3 overall and 3.5 in the major.
Students typically begin taking graduate-level courses during their senior year, which count toward both their undergraduate and graduate degree requirements. This overlap in coursework allows for the accelerated completion of both degrees. Applicants must also complete specific forms and meet other admission criteria, such as advisor approval and potentially competitive GRE scores.
The primary benefits of this program include time and cost savings, as students can avoid the additional years typically required to complete a master’s degree separately. Additionally, entering the job market with a master’s degree can enhance career prospects and competitiveness.
However, the program is rigorous and requires a significant commitment, as students will have a heavier course load and less flexibility to explore different academic interests or participate in extracurricular activities. Therefore, it's crucial for students to be certain about their career goals and readiness for an intensive academic schedule.
