Research Interests:

Rehabilitation counseling and pediatric disabilities; psychosocial impact of disability; disability advocacy and awareness


Dr. Heilman is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling (RMHC) Program in the Department of Child and Family Studies at 欧美三级片. She earned her PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Florida where she specialized in Rehabilitation Counseling and Pediatric Disabilities. Other areas of interest include: psychosocial impact of disability, disability advocacy and disability awareness.

Within the RMHC program, Dr. Heilman, teaches graduate course in Rehabilitation Counseling that include: Medical Aspects; Concepts and Applications; and Career and Lifestyle Assessment. She also teaches undergraduate courses in Addictions Counseling and Service Coordination.

In addition to her responsibilities at the University, Dr. Heilman founded and runs a foundation in memory of her daughter, Halle Grace, that works to educate and advocate for children with disabilities. Over the past ten years, Dr. Heilman has spoken to over 2500 pre-medical professionals on the human side of medicine. She conducts trainings in pediatric disabilities. Topics addressed included: communication skills, disability stigmas, disability awareness, school IEP process, and psycho-social impact of disability on child and the family.
