As a discipline responsible for understanding the experiences, adaptation and thriving of all peoples, the field of Psychology has long provided leadership in understanding human diversity. From the field’s very beginnings -- when William James challenged emerging conventions by heralding “” -- through the modern day, when Psychology has undertaken in fully and adequately developing a discipline and guild leadership that are equitable and inclusive – a commitment to accurately understanding the human experience has remained a core value.
Diversity encompasses the full spectrum of attributes, affiliations, and statuses that define individuals within society, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socio‐economic background, educational or professional experiences, unique physical or mental abilities or attributes, religious or ethical values system, national origin, veteran status, and political beliefs.. ŷƬ’s Department of Psychology is committed to creating a respectful and affirming climate in which all students, staff, and faculty are inspired to achieve their full potential. Collaborating with and guided by the , the major body that sets undergraduate and graduate educational and professional training guidelines for North American Departments of Psychology, our department is committed to promoting best educational practices for readying undergraduate and graduate students to contribute to the betterment of a diverse society that respects all individuals.
