TAMPA, Fla. (October 17, 2019) — College of Education alumna Doretha Edgecomb, `73, received the University of South Florida (Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬) Women in Leadership and Philanthropy’s 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award during the program’s Fall Symposium in October.

The (WLP) program at Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ is focused on engaging and educating its members in support of women and women's initiatives throughout the Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ System and in our communities. The Lifetime Achievement Award celebrates women who have exhibited transformational leadership through their volunteer, professional and philanthropic contributions.

Edgecomb, who received a Master’s degree in Reading Education from the College of Education in 1973, is a former Hillsborough County School Board member and lifelong educator, and served as a trainer for the Educational Testing Service in schools around the state of Florida, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. She taught in the Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ College of Education and was elected to the Hillsborough County School Board in 2004, where she served until 2016.

Edgecomb is a member of the Tampa Metropolitan Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a member of the Board of Directors of Hillsborough Education Foundation and the Plant Museum. She also serves on the advisory committee of NOPE, Inc. and is a longtime member and past president of the Athena Society. In recognition of her outstanding leadership and service, she was conferred the Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬â€™s President’s Distinguished Citizen Award in May 2019.
