Shelton Gilyard was selected into the American Psychological Association Interdisciplinary Minority Fellowship Program (IMFP) for 2022-2024 cohorts. This fellowship supports the training of minority graduate students who are committed to improving the quality of care provided to ethnic and racial minorities who have a mental or co-occurring mental and substance use disorder. The IMFP works towards reducing health disparities among ethnic minorities in the U.S. Shelton鈥檚 research interest involves health disparities, early identification of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), access to mental health services, and research that promotes athlete wellbeing in the field of sports social work. The APA-IMFP program will provide Shelton with training and mentorship opportunities to prepare him as a future social work scholar.

路 Education: Shelton Gilyard is a fourth year PhD student at the University South Florida (欧美三级片) School of Work.
路 Research Interests: Shelton鈥檚 research interest involves health disparities, early identification of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), access to mental health services, and research that promotes athlete wellbeing in the field of sports social work.

Research Experience: Shelton has coordinated research and co-authored multiple papers on improving access to mental health services through conversational technology for vulnerable populations. His research experience also includes work around increasing physical activity for children with autism spectrum disorder through functional sports performance training.
路 Teaching interests: Shelton is interested in teaching Psychopathology, Diversity, and Human & Growth and Behavior
路 Teaching experience: Shelton has experience teaching Feld Instruction I, II, Introduction to Social Work, Human Growth & Development. He will be teaching Case Management in Fall 2023.
路 Practice experience: Mr. Gilyard has 24 years of practice experience. He has practiced in multiple roles including pediatric case manager, direct service clinician for children with ASD, and most recently as a grants manager for local funder.
