Declare a CAS Major
Request to Change/Declare a College of Arts & Sciences Major
Please read all of the following information carefully.
Students are expected to graduate within the minimum number of semesters appropriate to their academic work completed at the time of admission in accordance with the Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ and Florida's Excess Hours Surcharge Policy.
After reviewing the list of major options, make a decision that aligns with the Degree Progression and Completion Deadlines and Excess Hours Surcharge Policy and submit a request to declare/change your CAS major. After your submission, an evaluation of your academic record will be reviewed and compared to guidelines. You may receive a referral to see an Academic Advisor to discuss your Declaration/Change of major request before it can be processed.
Remember, your request might not be permitted if it does not fall within the criteria of the Degree Progression and Completion Deadlines Policy.
This process is available online. With this form, you can request to declare or change your CAS major, concentration, and/or campus.
Declaration of Major and Other Important info for Former Student Returning
When you return to Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬, you will not be required to attend orientation. However, you
are responsible for learning any new Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ Policy and Procedures which may have been
added or changed since you last attended. Be sure to read over the information on
this link carefully before officially declaring your major.
Declaration of Double Major/Concurrent Degree
If you would like to declare a double major or concurrent degree, please schedule an advising appointment with your primary major advisor to discuss your eligibility (degree progression policy). If you have already met with your primary advisor this semester, you should schedule an appointment with the 2nd major’s advising area for more information. Please note: you must complete one semester at Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ (Fall or Spring) before initiating the double major or concurrent degree process.
Leaving or Dropping Your CAS Major
If you are interested in changing your major to another College (i.e. The Arts, Business,
Behavioral & Community Sciences, Engineering, Nursing, or Public Health) there is
no need to notify CAS.
Pre-Professional Sciences/Health Professions (PPS)
At Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬, the Pre-Professional Sciences/Health Professions or PPS declaration option
is NOT a major. Although PPS is not a major, you are able to declare and remain a
PPS student (without having to officially declare a major) until you have earned 36
credit hours. Declaring PPS will allow you the opportunity to meet with a Health Professions
advisor and discuss possible major options before officially declaring and pursuing
a specific major. If you have more than 36 overall credit hours you may not select
PPS as your first choice, you must select a major. If you are a student under the

Regardless of official major, students can still indicate an interest in pre-health in addition to officially declaring your major by emailing the Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ Division of Health Professions Advising.
MJ Holds
If you have an MJ hold once your declaration of major is processed in CAS, the hold
will be removed from your Student Self-Service account. The processing time will depend
on the evaluation of your academic record.
Changing Your Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ HomE Campus
First - Find out how changing your home campus MAY impact your student services
Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ Students can take courses at any Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ campus regardless of their declared home campus. Students only need to change their Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ home campus if they intend to pursue a Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ major that is not offered through their current Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ campus.
Because changing your home campus can impact you in other ways, please be sure to talk to different offices BEFORE making this decision. These offices include, but are not limited to:
- FEE STRUCTURE: Continuing UG students are being allowed to continue to pay fees based on the previous fee structure at their local campus – changing campuses will change the fee amounts charged. More information is forthcoming on the Student Financial Services website.
- SCHOLARSHIPS: If a UG student has a campus-specific scholarship, it may be impacted by a change of campus including, but not limited to, adjusted award amounts or the loss of eligibility.
- HOUSING: Changing campus does not automatically move housing assignments. If your change in campus prompts a desire to change your on-campus housing assignment, please contact the Housing & Residential Education office of your current campus (Tampa or St. Petersburg) to inquire about the process and options available BEFORE changing.
- INTERNATIONAL: Students are issued an I-20 based on their home campus and are only eligible for on campus employment at the campus listed on their I-20. Students should take at least ½ the courses at the campus listed on their I-20. Please discuss changes with International Student Services.
New Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ Students - Request to change Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ home campus
Any newly admitted undergraduate (UG) student who wishes to change campus BEFORE the beginning of their admit term must submit the request so via the Office of Admissions by updating their admissions application.
Please note that these requests may NOT be granted due to defined enrollment constraints by campus or college. New UG students will pay fees according to a consolidated fee structure and will NOT experience any impacts when changing campus. For changes AFTER the term has begun, UG students must contact their College.
Continuing Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ Students - Request to change Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ home campus
If you are interested in changing your campus (Sarasota-Manatee, St. Petersburg, Tampa), you should follow the same instructions as the Declaration/Change of Major. Contact the Advising Office for the Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬ Major on the campus you wish to complete your degree.
