BIOGRAPHY
Rebecca is a Doctoral Candidate in the Department of Communication and Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Hillsborough Community College. With a background in anthropology and Master’s degree in public health, her research explores intersections of and tensions within organizational communication and health communication within the context of institutions of higher education. Her research examines the communicatively constituted nature of organizational governance in academic institutions to reveal potential opportunities for enhanced stakeholder engagement.
She is currently examining relationships among college/university decision-making apparatuses, their formal communication processes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and college community members’ perceptions of the health and safety risks associated with returning to campus.
Rebecca is also currently leading an applied mixed-method research study in collaboration with Å·ÃÀÈý¼¶Æ¬â€™s Center for the Advancement of Food Security and Healthy Communities (CAFSHC), which seeks to better understand the prevalence of and experiences with food insecurity among community college students.
Rebecca’s work has received a top paper award from the National Communication Association and she has been named a Distinguished Scholar by the National Collegiate Honors Society and the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor from the Corporation for National and Community Service.
